I recently held a Make Your Own Power Animal workshop with two wonderful groups of young children, during the school holidays. We used polymer clay and fibre textiles with stitching and wrapping....I am always amazed at what they come up with!
It is such a wonderful experience to see them all at the beginning of class, some very unsure and shy, then to see the same ones tell the whole class about their amazing creations. I really love these relaxed type classes - it gives them all time to just make whatever they want - and with no 'student outcome' to place undue pressure on any creativity.
There's been a wee gap between posts.....however, I feel the break from the site has been productive. I've been brushing up (pun fun) on my watercolours and my class painted poppies last Thursday. What a complete joy as someone who has the privilege of passing on her humble amount of knowledge, to witness personal triumph. The age group I teach ranges from 60-90 and older. It really never ceases to amaze me, that these wonderful people are constantly thirsty for knowledge. We are planning an exhibition for the end of the year, but most of all, the therapy that coming to gather as a group in a social and recreational setting, has benefits far greater than just a teacher passing on artistic skills. I am fortunate to have held two workshops recently where the youngest member was five years old, and the similarities in all age groups, I have found, to be remarkable. I receive so much joy watching the concentration, the internal struggle, the inner glow at accomplishment. I leave my class each week, or a workshop pleasantly exhausted but totally euphoric....I can see why sharing of knowledge benefits all.
